Coastal Conservation League

“The Orton Foundation’s generous support of our conservation efforts in South Carolina enabled us to achieve some great things in 2016.” – Dana Beach, Executive Director

Coastal Conservation League (CCL) works to protect natural landscapes, abundant wildlife, clean water, and quality of life in South Carolina. As sea levels rise and increased development provide threats to the coast, CCL has been successfully fighting for shoreline protections in the state legislature.

In 2016, CCL was crucial in persuading the Obama Administration to prevent leasing for oil and gas drilling off the South Carolina coast because of its threat to the coastal economy and quality of life. Although the Atlantic is currently protected from offshore drilling, permits that would allow for seismic testing to occur on the Eastern Seaboard continue to move forward. CCL continues to advocate against seismic drilling through partnerships with policy makers and community engagement.
